Why we should legalize gambling?
Answers:
Because the majority of people in America want gambling in some form or another to be legal.
The great success of the lottery (in almost every state now) and Las Vegas is proof that people want to be able to do it. The World Series Of Poker attracted nearly 9,000 players this year despite a $10,000 entry fee. Vegas is expanding like crazy. The Venetian hotel is adding a few thousand rooms which will make it the largest hotel in the world, a record currently held by MGM also in Vegas.
Online gambling has become huge and is now a $12Bn industry.
All the evidence seems to support the theory that people like to be able to gamble. And why shouldn't they? It's their money, they earned it, they paid tax on it, and in America if you win more than $600 you will end up paying tax on that too.
Gambling is a lot of fun for a lot of people and it is not up to the government or state of a free country to tell people that they cannot gamble.
If I work hard all year to save up enough money to go to Vegas and blow it all, that is my prerogative. It is not the government's job to tell me I cannot.
I am a poker enthusiast. I play in a pub league, I've played in casinos world wide, I've played in a WSOP Circuit Event. In fact I even won this computer I am using right now in a poker tournament! But because I live in Tennessee I would have to travel about six hours away to play real money poker legally in a card room. But I know there are thousands of illegal cash games played in secret all over the country. When we have proven time and again that prohibition doesn't work, why are we still doing it?
People want to gamble, and gambling creates employment and tax income. So it should be legal everywhere, where it can be strictly monitored and regulated.
Now some will argue that gambling is immoral or dangerous. Well the same argument can be made about driving more than 20mph, smoking, drinking alcohol, or gun ownership. So unless we all want to live in a nanny state where all decisions are made for us and all potentially 'bad' things are banned there is no logical argument for keeping it illegal. Any state that 'worries' about problem gambling needs to ban the lottery immediately. The lottery is gambling against ridiculous odds. Legalizing that, but banning a poker room is completely incongruent.
Because people want to do it, and it doesn't hurt anyone if done in moderation.
for they can have all the money
A. The government shouldn't legislate morality.
B. The government should intrude on our lives as little as possible. Whether you believe in liberal or conservative ideals, you shouldn't want what you do in your house to be made illegal. The size of our government shouldn't mean it can intrude on things that have nothing to do with it.
C. Increased tax revenue.
D. Because it is profitable as hell for the people doing it if they are good. Casino and poker bonuses are out there for even very poor players to take advantage of. A really bad player could still turn a modest profit if they tried out a bonus guide like on http://www.ultimatepokerbankroll.com... or http://www.bonuswhore.com all that free money shouldn't be illegal.
Why? It allows the government to tax to companies who run the gambling jurisdictions
.
Just like prostitution and drug use, it will continue to happen if it’s legalized or not.
As a society we gamble legally every day……It’s called the stock market.
so we can have more money from taxes on people who are too stupid to understand the math of the situation
Because it's our money and government has no right to tell us how to spend it.
Besides, so long as they get their cut, what do they care?
so the gov can earn greater tax
